IGAD’s Representation in Brussels: a tool for better regional integration?
Since October 1st, 2022, the Office of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Representative has been accredited to the European Union (EU). This is an opportunity for the IGAD to engage with the EU directly in Brussels. One could think that the main goal for a Representative Office like this one is mainly to improve IGAD’s visibility to European donors. With the EU being one of IGAD’s major partners, we see why this initiative is welcomed. Furthermore, in February 2024, the EU and IGAD enhanced their partnership by signing a 4 million EUR financing agreement. The EU’s increasing involvement in the Horn also unveils new entry points for IGAD member States.
