In a Pioneering Move, East African Institute for Peace and Governance and Southern Voice Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Sustainable Development Goals
In a landmark virtual meeting, the East African Institute for Peace and Governance and Southern Voice, a dynamic platform for think tanks, have embarked on a collaborative journey to amplify efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The collaboration aims to address the existing ‘knowledge asymmetry’ and ‘participation deficit’ in the global dialogue on development.
Southern Voice, established in 2013, has evolved into a vibrant network comprising 66 think tanks from Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, and Asia. This open platform is dedicated to fostering a rich exchange of ideas by producing, promoting, and disseminating evidence-based policy analysis generated by researchers from Global South countries. The core objective is to leverage quality local data and research, enhancing the debate on the SDGs and augmenting the impact of the 2030 Agenda on regions facing unique developmental challenges.
Anwar Abdifatah, the Director of the East African Institute for Peace and Governance, articulated the critical need to shed light on this collaboration. He emphasized that the time is ripe for both entities to pool their expertise and resources, fostering a collaborative approach that transcends geographical boundaries. Abdifatah sees this partnership as a strategic move to not only bridge knowledge gaps but also to propel the 2030 Agenda forward, particularly in regions where the impact can be transformative.
The joint efforts between the East African Institute for Peace and Governance and Southern Voice mark a significant step toward fostering global cooperation in achieving sustainable development. By bringing together diverse perspectives and local insights, this partnership seeks to contribute meaningfully to the realization of the SDGs, reinforcing the commitment to a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
