Somalia’s Negotiations to Join the East African Community: Promising Progress Made

A nine-day negotiation between Somalia and the East African Community (EAC) took place in Nairobi, Kenya, with the aim of Somalia joining the EAC. The meeting was attended by different high-level representatives including Dr. Hadliye, Secretary Peter, and Dr. Mohamed Osman, Economic Advisor to the president and a member of the National Economic Council.

Moving forward, Somalia will submit the negotiation results to the EAC heads of state during their summit in November 2023. The final decision on Somalia’s membership in the EAC will be announced during this summit, where the negotiation’s promising progress will be evaluated.
