The Horn of Africa experiences recurrent famines, droughts, food shortages, and other climate-related issues; however, the region’s suffering may worsen due to ongoing international tensions. Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, and other countries in the region have all seen severe losses in their rural livelihoods as a result of the previous five seasons of rainy failure. While the region has been dealing with the crisis brought on by climate change, there have also been other diplomatic disputes since Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy, signed a contentious memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Somaliland, the northern breakaway province. The diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Somalia, as well as the other nations in the region, have been deteriorating ever since Ethiopia signed an agreement with a territory recognized internationally as belonging to Somalia. This aggression was carried out without provocation. As the sole landlocked nation in the Horn of Africa, Addis-Ababa has been using the ports of neighboring nations through bilateral arrangements for the past 100 years. However, after assuming office in 2018, Prime Minister Abiy has molded Ethiopia into a haughty and belligerent power throughout the region.
